CAS 5329-14-6 · Solid Inorganic Acid

Sulfamic Acid

Amidosulfuric Acid  ·  H₃NSO₃  ·  MW 97.09 g/mol

Sulfamic acid is a dry, non-fuming, non-volatile solid acid with strong descaling and cleaning power. Its white crystalline form makes it safer and easier to handle than liquid mineral acids, while still delivering effective dissolution of calcium carbonate, rust, and mineral scale. Texas-Chem supplies sulfamic acid in industrial, technical, ACS, and food-grade qualities in bags and drums.

Industrial Applications

Descaling & Cleaning

The preferred acid for descaling boilers, heat exchangers, condensers, cooling towers, and process equipment. Sulfamic acid dissolves calcium carbonate, rust, and mineral scale without fuming or attacking most metals at use concentrations.

Metal Finishing & Electroplating

Used in nickel, copper, and tin electroplating baths as a pH buffer and brightener. Provides stable, low-stress deposits and is compatible with most plating chemistries.

Pulp & Paper

Chlorine stabilizer in bleaching operations — reacts with excess chlorine to form chlorosulfamic acid, preventing chlorine loss and improving bleach efficiency in kraft and sulfite pulping.

Herbicide & Agriculture

Active ingredient in ammonium sulfamate-based herbicides for brush and weed control. Also used as a flame retardant for cellulosic materials in agricultural and forestry applications.

Dye & Textile Industry

Diazotization reagent for azo dye synthesis. Destroys excess nitrous acid after diazotization reactions, preventing side reactions and improving dye yield and purity.

Swimming Pool & Water Treatment

Solid acid for pH reduction in swimming pools, spas, and industrial water systems. Safer to handle than liquid acids, with no fuming and easy dosing by weight.
