Industrial Applications

Coatings & Lacquers

Solvent in nitrocellulose lacquers, alkyd coatings, and baking enamels. Slower evaporation than n-butanol improves flow and leveling.

Chemical Synthesis

Feedstock for isobutyl acetate, isobutyl acrylate, and diisobutyl phthalate plasticizers. Also used in synthesis of isobutyric acid.

Extractant

Selective extractant for acetic acid, butyric acid, and other organic acids from aqueous fermentation broths.

Cleaning & Degreasing

Component in industrial cleaning formulations and paint strippers. Effective on oils, greases, and resin residues.

Printing Inks

Solvent in gravure and flexographic inks. Moderate evaporation rate supports press performance and ink stability.

Biofuel Intermediate

Emerging biofuel feedstock — isobutanol can be produced by fermentation and converted to isooctane or jet fuel blendstocks.
