Industrial Applications

Wire & Cable Insulation

DINP is the preferred plasticizer for PVC wire and cable insulation and jacketing, providing excellent electrical properties, heat stability, and long-term flexibility. It meets UL and CSA requirements for 60 °C and 75 °C rated wire.

Flooring & Resilient Products

Used in luxury vinyl tile (LVT), sheet vinyl flooring, and resilient flooring products where long-term flexibility, UV stability, and low volatility are required.

Roofing Membranes

DINP is used in PVC roofing membranes and waterproofing membranes where long-term flexibility and UV resistance are critical for 20+ year service life.

Automotive Interior

Used in PVC automotive interior parts including dashboards, door panels, and seating where heat resistance and low fogging (DIN 75201) are critical.

Industrial Hose & Tubing

Used in PVC industrial hose and tubing for general-purpose fluid transfer applications.

Consumer Products

Used in PVC consumer products including garden hose, toys (REACH compliant), and household products.

DINP — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between DINP and DOP/DEHP?▾

DINP (diisononyl phthalate) has a higher molecular weight (418 vs 390 g/mol) and lower volatility than DOP/DEHP (di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate). DINP is REACH compliant and not classified as SVHC, while DOP/DEHP is classified as SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern) and restricted in many applications. DINP is the preferred replacement for DOP/DEHP in most flexible PVC applications.

Is DINP approved for food contact applications?▾

DINP has limited food contact approvals. For food contact PVC applications, DOTP (dioctyl terephthalate) or citrate ester plasticizers (TBC, TEC) are preferred. Contact Texas-Chem at 855-TEX-CHEM for guidance on plasticizer selection for food contact applications.

What is the typical loading of DINP in flexible PVC?▾

DINP is typically used at 30–60 phr (parts per hundred resin) in flexible PVC compounds. The loading depends on the target hardness (Shore A) and application requirements. Higher loadings produce softer, more flexible compounds. For wire and cable insulation, 30–45 phr is typical; for flooring, 35–55 phr.

Can DINP be used in children products?▾

DINP is subject to restrictions in toys and childcare articles in the EU (REACH Annex XVII) and the US (CPSC). Contact Texas-Chem for current regulatory status and alternative plasticizers (DOTP, TBC) for children product applications.
