CAS 25265-71-8 · Ether Diol · Isomer Mixture

Dipropylene Glycol

DPG  ·  C₆H₁₄O₃  ·  MW 134.17 g/mol

A colorless, nearly odorless ether diol produced as a co-product of propylene glycol manufacture. Commercial DPG is a mixture of three isomers with excellent solvency, low volatility, and a skin-safe profile. It is the fragrance industry's preferred carrier solvent and a versatile industrial glycol for plasticizers, polyurethanes, and specialty coatings. Texas-Chem supplies DPG in industrial and fragrance grades.

Industrial Applications

Fragrances & Perfumery

Fragrance-grade DPG is the most widely used carrier and diluent in the perfume industry. Its low odor, excellent solvency for fragrance compounds, and skin-safe profile make it the standard solvent for fine fragrances, body sprays, and scented products.

Personal Care & Cosmetics

Humectant, emollient, and solvent in lotions, creams, deodorants, and hair care products. DPG improves spreadability and skin feel while extending fragrance longevity.

Plasticizers

Feedstock for dipropylene glycol dibenzoate and other specialty plasticizers used in PVC, adhesives, and sealant formulations requiring flexibility and low-temperature performance.

Industrial Solvents

Solvent for printing inks, industrial cleaners, and hydraulic fluids. Industrial-grade DPG provides high solvency for resins and polymers with low volatility and good thermal stability.

Polyurethane Production

Chain extender and polyol component in polyurethane foam and elastomer formulations. DPG contributes to soft-segment flexibility in flexible foam systems.

Insect Repellents

Carrier solvent for DEET and other active insect repellent ingredients in topical formulations. Improves skin absorption and extends active ingredient residence time.
