CAS 111-46-6 · Ether Diol

Diethylene Glycol

DEG  ·  C₄H₁₀O₃  ·  MW 106.12 g/mol

A high-boiling ether diol produced as a co-product of ethylene glycol manufacture. DEG combines the properties of a glycol and an ether, making it a versatile industrial chemical for gas dehydration, plasticizer production, polyester resins, and textile processing. Texas-Chem supplies DEG in drums, totes, and bulk.

Industrial Applications

Natural Gas Dehydration

DEG is used as a dehydration agent in natural gas processing to remove water vapor from gas streams, preventing hydrate formation and pipeline corrosion.

Plasticizers

Feedstock for diethylene glycol dibenzoate and other plasticizers used in PVC, adhesives, and sealants. Provides flexibility and low-temperature performance.

Unsaturated Polyester Resins

Monomer in the production of unsaturated polyester resins for fiberglass composites, gel coats, and casting resins. Improves flexibility and impact resistance.

Textile Finishing

Softening and lubricating agent in textile processing. Used in fiber finishing, yarn sizing, and fabric softener formulations.

Morpholine Production

Chemical intermediate for the synthesis of morpholine — a solvent and chemical building block used in pharmaceuticals, rubber chemicals, and corrosion inhibitors.

Humectants & Solvents

Humectant in printing inks, paper coatings, and tobacco processing. Solvent for nitrocellulose, resins, and dyes in specialty coating applications.
