Antifreeze & Coolants
Primary active ingredient in automotive and industrial antifreeze/coolant formulations. A 50/50 EG/water mixture provides freeze protection to −37 °C and boil-over protection to 129 °C.
Polyester Fiber & PET
Key monomer in the production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) — used to manufacture polyester fibers, films, and beverage bottles. Accounts for the majority of global EG consumption.
HVAC & Heat Transfer
Heat transfer fluid in chilled water systems, geothermal loops, and industrial process cooling. Inhibited EG formulations provide corrosion protection for metal systems.
Aircraft De-icing
Active component in aircraft de-icing and anti-icing fluids (Type I and Type II). Prevents ice formation on wings and fuselage surfaces.
Chemical Intermediates
Feedstock for ethylene glycol ethers (Cellosolve solvents), polyethylene glycols, and glyoxal. Used in the synthesis of explosives, resins, and pharmaceuticals.
Natural Gas Processing
Injection into natural gas pipelines to prevent hydrate formation. Also used as a dehydration agent in gas processing plants.
