Grade Comparison
| Grade | Avg. MW | Viscosity | Primary Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| PPG 425 | ~425 g/mol | ~75 cSt at 25 °C | Polyurethane flexible foam, lubricants, and hydraulic fluids. |
| PPG 1000 | ~1000 g/mol | ~160 cSt at 25 °C | Polyurethane elastomers, sealants, and CASE applications. |
| PPG 2000 | ~2000 g/mol | ~330 cSt at 25 °C | Polyurethane coatings, adhesives, and high-performance elastomers. |
| PPG 4000 | ~4000 g/mol | ~900 cSt at 25 °C | Specialty polyurethane and high-MW lubricant applications. |
Selecting the Right PPG Grade
Low MW (PPG 425)
Flexible foam, lubricants, and hydraulic fluid applications requiring lower viscosity.
Mid MW (PPG 1000, 2000)
Polyurethane elastomers, CASE applications, and sealants requiring balanced flexibility and strength.
High MW (PPG 4000)
Specialty polyurethane and high-viscosity lubricant applications.
Industrial Applications
Polyurethane Production
Primary polyol in flexible and rigid polyurethane foam, elastomers, coatings, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers (CASE).
Hydraulic Fluids
Fire-resistant water-glycol hydraulic fluids for steel mills, die casting, and mining. PPG improves viscosity and lubricity.
Lubricants & Metalworking
Base fluid in synthetic lubricants, gear oils, and metalworking fluids. Excellent thermal stability and lubricity.
Functional Fluids
Heat transfer fluids, brake fluids, and compressor lubricants where low toxicity and biodegradability are required.
Surfactants & Demulsifiers
Building block for nonionic surfactants, demulsifiers, and defoamers used in oilfield and industrial applications.
Personal Care
Low-MW PPG grades used as emollients, solvents, and viscosity modifiers in cosmetics and personal care products.
Safety & Regulatory
SDS and certificate of analysis available for each grade upon request.
