It also has a distinctive sour taste and pungent smell. Although it is classified as a weak acid, concentrated Acetic Acid is corrosive and attacks the skin.
Acetic Acid is frequently used as a solvent for re-crystallization to purify organic compounds. Acetic acid is used as a solvent in the production of TPA. Diluted Acetic Acid is used in physical therapy using iontophoresis.
Acetic Acid is also used in drilling to adjust Ph of fluids to maintain effectiveness of other components such as cross linkers. One of the largest applications is in the production of Vinyl Acetate Monomer.
