Boric Acid is a weak acid of born often used as an antiseptic, insecticide, flame retardant, neutron absorb-er, or precursor to other chemical compounds. It has the chemical formula H3BO3, and exists in the form of colorless crystals or a white powder that dissolves in water.
Boric Acid is used in the medial industry as anticeptic for minor burns and cuts. Boric Acid can also be used as an acne treatment. It is used as an insecticide, preservation of timber, prevent slime and algae growth in marine applications, lubricant (common examples are carrom and novuss boards), and in nuclear power. Boric Acid is used in the manufacturing of fiberglass, LCD TV screens, and used in pyrotechnics (creates a deep dark green flame).
Interesting Fact - Boric Acid was dumped over Reactor #4 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant after its meltdown to prevent another reaction from happening.
