Chitin is a long-chain polymer, and is found in many places throughout the natural world. It is the main component of the cell walls of fungi, the exoskeletons of arthropods such as crustaceans and insects, the radulas of mullusks, and the beaks and internal shells of cephalopods.
Chitin is used in fertilizer to help overall crop yields, food processing, binder in dyes, surgical thread, and biotmedical research.
