Formic Acid

Formic Acid is the simplest carboxylic acid.  Its chemical formula is HCOOH. It is an important intermediate in chemical synthesis and occurs naturally, most notably in ant venom. In-fact, its name comes from the Latin word for ant, formica, referring to its early isolation by the distillation of ant bodies. Esters, salts, and the anion derived from formic acid are referred to as formates.

Formic Acid is used as a preservative and antibacterial agent in livestock feed.  It is also used in the production on leather, including tanning, dyeing and finishing of textile, coagulant in the production of rubber.  Formic Acid is also used in place of mineral acids for various cleaning products.

Formic Acid is used in drilling fluids to prevent corrosion of pipe, also used in completion fluids for high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) drilling.

We are pleased to offer Formic Acid 90% & 95% in the following quantities:

  • 55 Gallon Drum
  • IBC Tote
